Lightspeed Electrical led the electrical design and installation for McDonald Jones Homes’ new flagship headquarters, delivering a workplace that blends functionality, visual appeal, and long-term performance. From the early planning stages through to final commissioning, our team worked closely with the builder, designers, and client stakeholders to ensure the electrical systems aligned with the project’s architectural vision and operational needs.

This project marked an important milestone for McDonald Jones Homes as they consolidated operations into a central location. As such, the electrical scope needed to reflect the standards of a leading home builder—supporting high levels of activity, internal collaboration, and client-facing presentations.

The headquarters was designed to serve not only as an administrative hub but also as a space where clients could engage with the brand and explore its offerings. That meant careful consideration of lighting layout, audiovisual infrastructure, data capabilities, and power distribution across various functional zones.

Lightspeed Electrical was responsible for providing guidance throughout the design process, proposing solutions that would deliver performance and efficiency without compromising aesthetics. This included integrating smart switching systems, ensuring structured cabling supported the demands of modern IT infrastructure, and working within tight timeframes to meet project deadlines.

McDonald Jones Home Flagship Headquarters Project Involved:

• A complete showroom installation on the ground floor, featuring integrated lighting, audiovisual displays, and power infrastructure to support client walkthroughs, product demonstrations, and interactive design consultations. The layout was carefully planned to reflect McDonald Jones Home Flagship Headquarters’ design standards, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors and staff alike.
• 180 workstations and offices on the upper level, each fully equipped with dedicated power, data connectivity, and LED task lighting to support daily operations. The layout was designed to encourage efficient workflows and team collaboration while providing staff with a comfortable and well-lit working environment.
• Removal of over 2 tonnes of outdated cabling from the previous system, clearing the way for a cleaner, safer, and more efficient electrical setup. This step was critical in modernizing the infrastructure and ensuring the new installation could perform reliably without interference from legacy components.

The showroom featured:

• Installation of 800 lighting fixtures, carefully selected and positioned to enhance product displays with clarity and precision. These fixtures were integrated into the showroom design to highlight key features, improve visibility, and create an inviting atmosphere for client engagement.

McDonald Jones Home Flagship Headquarters upper floors included:

• Installation of 400 LED panel lights to optimize illumination across the upper-level office environment. These energy-efficient fixtures were selected for their uniform light distribution, reduced glare, and long-term performance—helping to create a bright, comfortable workspace conducive to productivity and collaboration.
• Installation of 300 data points to ensure seamless connectivity across all departments, meeting rooms, and workstations. This structured cabling infrastructure was designed to support high-speed internet access, communications, and internal networking systems, providing the foundation for reliable performance throughout the headquarters. Each point was strategically placed to minimize clutter while maximizing accessibility, helping McDonald Jones Homes maintain efficient digital operations.
• A state-of-the-art server room was constructed, featuring two full-height server racks to house the backbone of McDonald Jones Home Flagship Headquarters’ IT infrastructure. This dedicated space was equipped with precision power distribution, climate control provisions, and structured cabling to support high-volume data traffic, system backups, and future expansion. Designed with both performance and security in mind, the server room enables stable, uninterrupted connectivity for all departments across the headquarters.
• Switchboards and general power systems were upgraded to support increased energy demands, ensuring reliable distribution across workstations, meeting rooms, and showroom areas.
• Floor boxes and TV connectivity were installed throughout the space to support flexible layouts, streamline cable management, and enhance presentation capabilities.

Despite strict deadlines and unforeseen challenges during construction, the execution remained on track, with all electrical installations completed on time and to specification.
